What and where to do you teach? I teach Intro to Yoga, Beginner, Empower and Flow Yoga in Ajax.
What do like best about teaching? I love helping people come to an awareness of the energy and empowerment they can find in yoga – especially seeing the way people feel at the end of a practice – like a little weight has been lifted from their shoulders.
What drew you to yoga? Initially I was just looking for a form of exercise that wouldn’t be hard on my joints. The benefits, both physical and mental, took me completely by surprise as they unfolded, and keep unfolding, with each practice. Even now, though I have a greater awareness of all of the wonderful changes yoga can bring, I continue to be amazed as each one manifests itself in my life.
What is your favorite pose? Headstand – I love the lightness of being
What is a challenging pose for you?Right now I’m working on all the forearm balances, and handstand. Each time I work at one of these poses, I get a little closer to that perfect feeling of steady and sweet.
What did you want to be when you grew up? I still have lots of time to decide that.
If you could have dinner with any 4 people alive or dead who would they be and why? Marie-Antoinette (she has been so badly treated by history); Cleopatra (same reason); Mary Magdalene (I want to know the TRUTH); and my daughter, Emily – so that the other ladies could take joy in seeing what young women are now free to become.
What is something about you that may surprise people? I’ve had the privilege of some amazing experiences in the last few years: I’ve practiced tai-chi on the Great Wall of China, and yoga on a mountain in Greece. And I discovered I am claustrophobic inside the Great Pyramid. I wish I could apologize to the 200 people I trampled on my way out.
What is your personal mantra for happiness or success? Things always work out in the end. And if they don’t, it’s not the end.
