Helen Mason – RYT 200

What and where do you teach? Flow Yoga, Power Yoga and Yoga & Meditation at BLY Ajax.

What do you like best about teaching? Helping and inspiring people become aware and awaken to their true inner beauty and higher self by connecting with their heart, compassion and energy.

What drew you to Yoga? Shortly after BLY Ajax opened, I drove by the studio every day and felt my inner voice telling me to check it out. Upon meeting Shasta right away, I knew my heart was in the right place. As I began practicing Yoga, I trusted my inner voice and heart once again and signed up and completed my 200 Hour Teaching Program. By practicing yoga and now teaching, I realize what a true gift I have given myself and others. I am creating more balance in my life, I am calmer, more confident, have better clarity, healthier and happier within myself and strive every day to live in the “Now” with courage, inspiration passion, adventure and enjoy the ride!

What is your favourite pose? I love pigeon, feeling the hip opener stretch and releasing and letting go what no longer serves me any more. A very exhilarating moment for me was when I was in India in March 2011 and Shasta and I did a head stand together side by side in front of the Taj Mahal…very empowering!

What is a challenging pose for you? Upward Bow (a deep back bend). I will continue to challenge myself.

What did you want to be when you grew up? Professional Figure Skater and World Traveller. I believe in continuing to learn, grow and always be open for new opportunities!

If you could have dinner with any 4 people alive or dead who would they be and why? Ghandi – he believed in unity, non-violence, truth, peace and love. His messages were and still are empowering and inspiring today! Louise Hay – she has inspired and empowered people from all over the world through her books, affirmations and her teachings on believing the power of belief that we can cure any disease and create the life we love. My Nanny, my Mother’s Mom, she was spiritually ahead of her time. She believed in the power of positive thinking. Marianne Williamson – her teachings are based on the ideas in A Course in Miracles, a self-study system of spiritual psychotherapy. She has written many great books and one of my favourite is A Return to Love, Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles. “Be not afraid, but let your world be lit by miracles.”

What is something about you that may surprise people? I have had a passion for the ice most of my life – Figure Skater, competitive Ringette player and then switched to playing hockey. I was the only girl player and played in a “NHL” Old Timers Charity Event with Eddy Shack, Wilf Paymont, etc. In 2009 I performed in two Live Toronto Charity Theatre Shows on stage, singing and dancing – “To Life” and “The Wiz”, which I sang a solo. I celebrated my 50th Birthday White Watering through the Glacial waters of British Columbia with my 2 sisters and brother which was Magical!

What is your personal mantra for happiness or success? I am grateful for what I already have. I choose to be happy and every day I wake up thinking who may I serve today and who can I make smile today? Do unto others as they would do unto you
