Shasta Townsend, E-RYT 200 and RYT 500 Teacher

faculty shastaNamed after a flower, Shasta loves to watch her students bloom! She is a caring, compassionate and well-versed teacher. She brings her in-depth knowledge of yoga philosophy, asana and teaching methodology to life both on and off the mat in this course. Shasta has a unique way of helping students develop a deep and meaningful relationship to yoga and become inspired spirits. Her classes are engaging, insightful with just the right amount of challenge. Always deepening her own understanding and relationship with yoga, Shasta completed studies with renowned philosopher and writer, Georg Feurstein, and completed 500 Hours certification. She is also writing a book on Divine union in everyday life and is the creator of the truly unique Abundance Flows Meditation CD.

Shasta is committed to bringing more great Yoga to more great communities through authentic, inspiring and well trained Yoga teachers. She created the 200 Hour Inspiring Spirit Teacher Training Program in 2004 and the 500 Hour Professional Development Program in 2008 – both were quickly recognized by Yoga Alliance and are registered Yoga Alliance Programs. Shasta is also known as an innovator in the field of Yoga, well-being and metaphysics. She is the Yoga Therapist on staff at Oshawa Health, a first in Canada. She is a featured writer for Vivid Life as well as a celebrated Blog-Talk Radio Host of the acclaimed Possibility 101 show.   Shasta’s passion for teaching other’s to live a great life as well as her ability to make complicated ideas applicable, relevant and interesting make her one of Canada’s most sought out teachers. Krista Bromfield, B.Sci, B.Kin & RYT

Krista Bromfield is the lead Anatomy and Physiology teacher at the 200 and 500 hour levels of the Balanced Life Yoga Inspiring Spirit Teacher Training Programs.  She is one of Balanced Life Yoga’s senior teachers and has taught Yoga for close to 18 years in the Durham Region. She graduated from Balanced Life Yoga’s 200 Hour Program in 2007 and the 500 Hour Program in 2010.  She is an active and inquisitive student herself who is constantly training and going deeper into her own practice and the offerings of Yoga.

Krista has an honors degree in Kinesiology and Biology from McMaster University and is a Secondary School P.E in Durham Region. Krista is also a CANFITPRO Pro trainer, certified First Aid and CPR instructor with St. John’s Ambulance and a certified yoga teacher. Krista brings her fascination and enthusiasm to the study of the body and how it relates to yoga in a meaningful way. Her warm personality and engaging teaching style make her classes fun and interesting.

She is also one of Canda’s most respected and revered Partner Yoga teachers and is the creator of 2Unite Partner Yoga along with her husband Dwayne.  Lululemon has honored her skills and community leadership by honoring her with a Lululemon Ambassadorship twice – in 2008 and 2010.

Angela Ryan, B.Art, B.Ed & RYT 500

Angela Ryan is the lead Asana Technique teacher in the 200 hour Balanced Life Yoga Inspiring Spirit Teacher Training Program. She holds an honours BA from Trent University and a B.Ed from Queen’s, and is a teacher of Psychology, Sociology and History at the secondary level.  She is an RYT500 instructor, a graduate of Balanced Life Yoga Inspiring Spirit 500 hour program  and is certified in CPR and First Aid.

Angela brings together a broad range of professional learning, and infectious enthusiasm to enrich her students’ experience of yoga through deep understanding of asana technique. Angela continues to seek new ways of making yoga accessible to all, so that each new teacher graduate can confidently share the benefits of yoga with students everywhere.

Duncan Parviainen  RYT 500

Duncan is Canada’s youngest most highly certified and experienced yoga teacher, with over 900 hours of training, and close to1000 hours of teaching experience.

Duncan graduated from Balanced Life Yoga’s 200 hour program in 2007 and has been teaching ever since.  He has also completed his Classical Ashtanga Yoga Certification with Baba Hari Dass at the Mount Madonna Centre in California and is now in pursuit of his Anusara Certification studying with renowned teachers such as Desiree Rumbaugh, Todd Norian and Anne Greene.

Duncan enjoys teaching with a fun attitude andprovides an engaging asana experience with a focus on clear alignment cues and physical adjustments that allow for more ease and body awareness. He draws from several yoga lineages (including Anusara, Jivamukti and Thai Yoga Massage) to give highly effective and safe hands-on assists.  Although Duncan now lives and teaches in downtown Toronto, he greatly enjoys coming back to BLY to be in the loving and inspirational community.
