I have been AWAKENED!!!! There has been a shift in me this week………thanks to BLY Teacher Training with Shasta. Over the past few months I have had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of yoga classes. I wanted to experiment with different styles and meet different instructors. While many of the instructors were good and the classes enjoyable, I have come to the conclusion that my first yoga teacher ever – Angela from Balanced Life Yoga whose classes I enjoyed the most. Angela is always trying new poses with her classes. It keeps me interested and I find her “let’s try this” approach refreshing. To the contrary, I found some of the franchise studio’s classes to be too much of the same thing. What I love the most about Angela is the fact that she is authentic. I feel yoga is her life and not just some attempt to be on the latest fitness class band-wagon. Angela inspired me to begin yoga in the first place and she continues to inspire me each and every time we meet!

Since beginning Balanced Life in September of 2008, I have lost a total of 15 inches. The area were I had the greatest loss was my hips, a total of 10 inches. I wanted to write a short note to express my appreciation and enjoyment of your beginner class. The instructor was an excellent and patient teacher. My mom, who also attended the classes, has some serious knee issues and the teacher always ensured that my mom was okay with the poses and always suggested alternate poses for her. She took the extra time for each student when necessary and her knowledge and love of yoga permeated out onto the students at each class. I learned a lot from her, especially how to do the postures “properly”. I had taken prenatal yoga classes a few years ago and I was never shown how to properly adjust and move my body for each pose as I was in this class.

I no longer pay for a chiropractor, I sleep better and am more positive in all aspects of my life. My job is very stressful and I find my practice helps me release from work and feel more accepting of others. I literally bounce up the stairs at work while others are dragging themselves around. The Yoga for Runners class made all the difference in my marathon training. I was hoping that by taking the class I would be adding some core routines as well as some advanced stretching and strengthening routines, and it did not disappoint. The result was that I felt more recovered after the class to continue the rigorous running schedule, than before. Shawna is an excellent instructor; she gave us all clear easy to follow instructions throughout the session, and took the time to explain where the benefits of each exercise. She also varied the exercises each week, sometimes slightly, sometimes greatly. The class never seemed routine; she always had some new area to explore, new muscles to strengthen or tune, and all of them areas of critical importance to runners. She obviously did much research into what yoga exercises would benefit runners. I look forward to continuing my yoga practice as part of my training program, and having Shawna as my instructor.

I started my individual sessions of spiritual life coaching with Shasta last fall and my outlook on myself and my life has done a complete 180 turnabout. I no longer live in the past with all the sorrow, I live in the now. I smile all the time, I have found peace and contentment within myself, I wake up each morning and as my feet hit the bedroom floor I always say thank you this is going to be a beautiful day. I’ve found all kinds of doors opening for me, the laws of attraction really do work, I’ve lost 30+ pounds, quit smoking, meditate every day to Shasta’s cd and enjoy my yoga classes twice a week. I just wanted to forward you my thanks and appreciation. Your yoga classes are fantastic … your style and approach provide me with such a ‘stress relief’ as well as a total body work out. I am a police officer and I have noticed a complete change in my level of stress both on and off the job. I recently participated in my annual training which included the firearms requalification and I noticed my breathing and balance improved the accuracy with my directed targets. I have also noticed my stamina has improved with my work outs especially my running. Initially, I registered for yoga to improve my balance and flexibility … I thought I would just “try it out” and now, I can say that yoga has become a part of my lifestyle.
